The Boss GT-6 is an amazing guitar processor. In a studio you can DI and use the amp simulations to create all your different sounds. You can also turn the amp simulator off and use just the effects and distortions and plug into your amp. Effectively you are using the GT-6 just like a pedal board with all the individual boss pedals. This works really well live and in the studio. The only downside is the factory presets. Generally the effects are not in the right order and there is too much of everything. However Boss are merely trying to show you what you can do. You simply have to edit the sounds and parameters etc. to your liking. This machine will do whatever you want it to, you just have to tell it!

The Fostex VF-08.
This is my recording console. Don't let its size fool you as it has many capabilities. This model is no longer in production but has everything I need. This machine does not burn directly to CD although I have Cubase SX and other software to do this. Basically I record to the VF-08 hard drive and transfer to computer and then disc.

Below is my rig for both live and studio work. Guitar wise you see my Vigier Excalibur (on the left) and the Peavey EXP (this is the Hartley Peavey signature guitar). The Vigier is great for clean funk, blues, instrumental rock etc. Really the only sound it does not produce is the Les Paul type sound, a la Gary Moore blues etc. However this is where the Peavey comes in (perfect for the job). With these two guitars I can do whatever is necessary. I don't own an acoustic guitar at present but the Boss GT-6 does the job amicably.
For amplification I use the Peavey Bandit 112. I only use the clean channel on this and then my distortions and overdrives etc. run through this. Below this combo amp is the Peavey 212j speaker cabinet (which connects to the ext. speaker socket on the combo). This cabinet has really made a difference. Now I have all the power and depth I need and I don't necessarily have to be so loud as I am running through three 12" speakers.
